Flashback Friday

Happy Friday! I hope you have all had a great week. I am so glad it is the weekend. One day closer to my honey getting home:) I am looking forward to a girls night tonight!!!!! My friend Jenn is having a Stella and Dot party:) Tomorrow is a big day in our house for football. Georgia plays Alabama in the SEC championship! I know we can beat them on two conditions: 1. We come out playing like we have the last 6 games 2. We don't let them get too ahead of us at the beginning. If Bama scores 2 or 3 times at the beginning, I think it will be hard to come back. But not matter what, we have had an AWESOME season! GOOOOO DAWGS! Sunday we have church and lunch with our friends. Our elf is also making his debut this weekend as well as our advent calendar:)

Next week I have some new healthy foods to share with you. Our commissary is really trying o bring in some specialty items and I am really excited about them. Now on to Flashback Friday...

This pictures is precious to me. This is just a couple weeks after we brought my sweet Elias home. He was a little early and stayed in the NICU for two weeks. I was so happy to finally have him home:)

Have a wonderful weekend! Hope you get some Christmas shopping done:))

Turn The Page Tuesday Week 10

Happy Tuesday, Y'all! I hope you had a great weekend and a great Monday! It's been a great week here so far and I am already looking forward to the weekend:) It is full on fall here in Louisiana and although I am loving the cool weather, I am already missing the warm:/ Probably not a good thing...I am a warm weather girl. However, I am excited for the holidays, sweaters, warm drinks, baking, changing trees, etc.

I will tell you I am obsessed with the Gingerbread Latte at Starbucks....yum! I cannot get enough of these holiday yummies!:)

Yes, it is as delicious as it looks! I've also decided I am making gingerbread cookies for The Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap!:) I am so excited!!!! If you haven't signed up, its not too late! This is a holiday cookie swap where you send cookies to three people and you receive cookies, too:)

 It is also time for another Turn The Page Tuesday! Yes, Halloween is tomorrow but I am going to jump out of the Halloween theme and straight into another fall book!

One Little, Two Little, Three Little Apples
By: Matt Ringler

 We got this book last year from Chickfila. It is a very simple counting book, but it also is about baking an apple pie:) We baked an apple pie this week so this is the perfect book. Brother and sister go and pick apples with their family. When they get home, they get to enjoy playing in the leaves while Mom and Dad bake. I love this book because it describes the simplicity of what I love about fall.

Flashback Friday

Happy Friday! I hope you have all had a great week! It has been really busy here and I am ready for the weekend. I will be honest with you, my blogging is going to subside for a bit. I started to realize how much time was being put into it, and days just aren't long enough. My time with the Lord in my bible study is what I want my extra time to go to. I usually only have that time in the early morning as the afternoons and evenings are BUSY. I do love to blog, so don't worry you will still see me:) There just may be weeks where I don't get to blog much....especially now that the holidays are here:) eek! Speaking of holidays, yes, I am the annoying "listens to Christmas music after Halloween" person;) I LOVE the holidays and am so excited they are here. I have my Christmas list up and running and shopping has begun!!! I even received some Black Friday early bird ads this week. This year is going to be a good Black Friday day! This year Weston and I will be able to shop ALONE as my in-laws will be here and offered to keep the boys. This is HUGE because Weston and I are the ones who stand in the Target line at 3am;) And there are stores we hit all morning. I am so excited this year, because I have gotten a head start on gift ideas!!! My mom and I ate at a new restaurant here in DeRidder this week. OH MY was it amazing!!! I can't believe it took us this long to go. Two Sisters Deli and Pecan House is right down the road from us. They are a deli so they serve things like soups, salads, baked potatoes, and sandwiches. Everything is made fresh daily and so are their desserts! I had the pulled pork BBQ sandwich and a bowl of homemade chicken-n-dumplins. Hands down the BEST dumplins I've had other than my Grammies! I forgot to take a picture, but we are headed there this weekend so I will try and snap some shots! If you noticed they are a "pecan house". They make about 20 different kinds of homemade pecans, from bourbon praline to cajun. My mom got three different types for my step-dad and he LOVED them! It is run by a bunch of older women, which as you know, those are the ones who can cook. So, now we have our main go-to place here in D-town;) One more reason I love living in a small southern town!This is is my flashback for this Friday! This was Wyatt at Halloween last year. Poor Eli was stroller stricken behind him;)

We have a beautiful park here in our town. Every year they set up a huge trick or treating trail. They sell food, treats, etc. and provide people to hand out candy to the kids. Its perfect because we just walk through the park for about an hour, the kids get their fill, and we head home:) I hope you all have a safe and fun Halloween next week!

See you on Monday for some weekend recap! We are having football Saturday with some new friends this weekend. I am looking forward to getting to know a couple new military wives! These guys are my hubby's closest friends at work and their wives are so sweet. Sunday we have our pumpkin patch day (finally;)) with my precious friend Jenn and her family! Cannot wait!:)
Happy Weekend!

Turn The Page Tuesday Week 9

I cannot think of the last time I blogged this late in the day. To be honest, I almost didn't get to. It has been crazy busy, and unfortunately my blog comes in towards the end of my list. I hope you all had a great weekend! We definitely did. I will post about our fun later this week:) So very quickly, here is my  book choice for this week before Halloween....

The Spooky Sound
Disney/Pixar Stage 2 Books

This is an adorable book for Halloween! Mater and Lightning are best pals. They are driving through town at night in the dark. While out they hear scary noises and keep seeing scary objects. They are already spooked and the more they see, the more they fret. Read along to find out what it is scaring them!:)

We love "Cars" in our house. This is one Wyatt likes to read often. We are those people that always come out of the store with something. Our "something" is usually a book:)
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
I have already started shopping Christmas books! I cannot wait to share some classics, old favorites, and new favorites!!!:) Okay, it's not too late to link up! Go grab the butting and join in!! Have a great evening...see you tomorrow!

Weekend Recap+Oatmeal Chocolate Chips

Phew. That was a weekend. The stomach virus went through our house this past week and weekend. We so very rarely get sick and have never all been sick at the same time that it was quite the treat. Its over now and I am ready for this busy week! Among the other things I have to do this week, it was Wyatt's birthday yesterday so I am in party planning mode:) We are having a super-hero party so I have a lot to do:) Some of the girls that are coming do not have superhero clothing so I am going to throw together a few "girly" capes:)

Ok, so who watched Revenge last night?! LOVE LOVE that show. Seriously like my favorite. It is getting so good and I am dying to see where they take the show this season. I am wanting Jack and Emily to reunite and be together so much...however, I see them dragging that out for.ever.
There is another round of presidential debates this week. I am hoping it goes a bit smoother for one party. Our VP made himself look like a child at the last weeks, which then in turn just makes the president look worse. I obviously am not a fan of either, but I still think Biden needs to think about his actions affecting other people. Maybe he should stop running his mouth...and the smiling...eek. Okay, off that soapbox;)

I made some delicious cookies last night and thought I would share. What is the best way to to tell if your cookies will be good, you ask?! The dough. Yes, always go by the cookie dough. I am telling you, that is key!

Turn The Page Tuesday: Week 4

I hope you all had a great start to your week! Our Monday was pretty typical. Monday is always my cleaning day. I like to get my entire house done so I don't have anything to worry about during the week. We also had our friends Kayla and Tray, and their boys, for dinner! I made lasagna and she brought a delicious blueberry pie! There is something about making and baking pies in the fall...its so comforting.
What comforts you during the Fall season?
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Now its Tuesday and I have some serious sewing to knock out today!! Wyatt also has his second soccer practice tonight. They get their uniforms at practice and his first game is Saturday morning:)  Tuesday also means its time for another "Turn The Page Tuesday!"  I hope you all got your books ready, and can link up with Amanda and I today!!:)

Squirrel's Fall Search
By:Anita Loughrey

The boys just got this book a couple weeks ago, and it was perfect timing. It is a
cute book on "Fall" and what the season looks like.

In this story, squirrel and his brother are playing in the woods. They
decide to go search for nuts and get separated in the process. This is a story
of how they find each other and a delicious snack of nuts.

I really like this book for the reason above:) I love the little activities and
the "Fall" suggestions. It gives an idea for using pumpkins,
and also what to do and look for on a fall walk!

Weekend Recap+Favorite "Fall" Thing

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend! I am so bummed my husband is back to work today:( However, this weekend is a 3 day weekend for us and I am so looking forward to it! My cousin is coming into town and I am so excited! Owen hasn't been out to see us since we've been in Lousiana. This weekend was a relaxing one with my Dad and his fiancé, Teresa. She is always a huge help when she is here. She did dinner, bath time, cleaning the kitchen, etc. For those moms out there, you know how nice it is to have the extra hands to do that!:)
Saturday we did some work outside, cleaning off the porch, and grilling for dinner. We picked up some steaks from a local meat market/butcher and they were so good!!! Of course we watched our bulldogs play!:) They dominated. GOOO DAWGS!!:) Yesterday we went to church, out to lunch, and then ran some errands. I think Weston is already sick of shopping...and the holidays aren't here yet:/ Here are a couple shots from the boys on Saturday:

I can't stand the cuteness!!!:) It was a beautiful day at our house and we enjoyed it by being outside all day.....
What did you do this weekend?
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Flashback Friday!

Woohoo!! Its time for the weekend again! I hope you have all had a great week! It has been a little stressful in our house this week, but God has given me lots of peace and assurance. I am so thankful. We have some fun plans this weekend! My Dad and his fiancĂ© will be here today so we are planning on making some good food and burning a big bonfire tonight. Tomorrow is, of course, football:) Sunday we are headed to church and the out to lunch with our friends. I love eating with friends after church..it just finishes off a great morning of worship and fellowship!

What are your weekend plans?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today I am flashing back to when my second little boy was teeny;) He was 6 weeks premature and so darn cute! This is him at almost 2 months old...eeeeeek! I love it! This one always makes me laugh. He was so particular about being wrapped and comfy. I had not put his blanket over him yet and he was getting a little testy;)
Look at those little feetsies and hands and cheeks and head....okay, I'm done;) I would love to see some of your old photos! Thanks again for those who are stopping by and reading!! I am always trying to find new ways to bring in more readers. If you have any suggestions on what you would like to read about, I would love to hear them!
Have a great weekend and I will be back on Monday for another great week of blogging!
10 Tips for Successful Breastfeeding
One more day until the weekend! EEK!;) I am ready for some time with the girls! I hope your Wednesday was as good as mine. It has been a busy week, but we have gotten a lot done. Today I am finishing up some yard work(embracing the love bug attacks;)) and getting prepared for tomorrow! MOPS, Mothers of Preschoolers, starts tomorrow and I am so ready!! For my fellow moms out there, you should look up your local MOPS program and go check it out! Today, I thought I would share my tips on successful breastfeeding! These are the things I have found that work for me. There is no "scientific proof" behind any of them:) Let me start by saying that although I am a strong promoter of breastfeeding, I am also pro moms doing what is best for them and baby. There should be no judgement for Moms who choose other paths. A healthy Mom also means a healthy baby!:)
*****************************************************************
10 Tips for Successful Breastfeeding
1. Use your Lactation Consultant.  If you have the option to talk with one, even though they can put a little pressure on you, they do know what they are talking about. They can be there the first few days, which can be there hardest, and walk you through it. They have great tips and suggestions.
2. Stay Calm and relaxed. Yes, this can be quite challenging when you are SORE beyond description;) I have been there. But, I have found that trying to stay calm, not tense, and relaxed will keep baby calm and willing to suck.
3.  PUMP! PUMP! PUMP! I am telling you this makes a huge difference in your experience. One, it helps bring your milk down quicker, and is a great method to "release" when those things get stopped up. For those of us who have nursed, we know thats not a pretty situation;) I started by pumping in between feedings to bring in my milk faster, and then eventually to bring more in. Bringing more milk made it to where I could pump and freeze. That comes in handy when you leave baby for the first time. I wanted my babies solely on breast milk. You can also start pumping a few days before baby arrives to get the milk down sooner. Just remember to SAVE what you pump! The colostrum comes first and that is like GOLD! If you can't afford a pump, the hospital rents them out.
    4. Purchase a Nipple Shield. I don't know what I would've done without it! This is where I will say to remember this is MY advice, because your Lactation Consultant will tell you differently. I was given my first nipple shield by my consultant in the hospital. They are promoters of them,  they just want baby getting used to the breast and not spoiled to the shield. When you use a bottle or a shield they learn really fast how much easier they get their milk. So, sometimes it can make them become a little lazy at the breast. However, I  found that using the shield helped with my chaffing, soreness, and it took some of the pain out of a new baby trying to learn. (sometimes they latch a little too tight;) So, I used my for the first few months until I lost the soreness and baby was good and nursing. I didn't find it was hard to wean off of the shield. I just slowly took it away, one feeding at a time.
5. Stay Hydrated. My Grandma worked in L&D for 30 years and always told me to DRINK WATER! DRINK WATER! DRINK WATER! It helps with milk production and keeps you hydrated as well.
6. Pay attention to what you eat. Ok, moms. I am not going to tell you to eat perfectly. No. I indulged on some yummy foods;) However, overall, make sure you are hitting all the food groups! And remember to pay attention to what you eat that may affect nursing baby. Here is a list of some average foods that can affect a nursing baby...because remember everything we ingest goes right to them.
7. Take care of yourself. Make sure you are getting plenty of rest. Sleep whenever you can. This is much easier when you only have one child. However, eat well, sleep when you can, and let other help you. We can go back to being Super-Mom right away;)
8. Don't let nursing in Public scare you. If you decide to nurse, then you will have to nurse in public. Don't fret. Go buy a nursing cover and do what you have to do. I would also wear an easily accessible shirt that didn't reveal much when I lifted  it, but made it easy to get to when baby gets hungry. You wouldn't believe the situations I was in when I needed to nurse. Needless to say, I learned to be a little less modest;)
9. Naked baby means nursing baby. It is true when they say to take off the baby's clothes if he/she falls asleep instead of feeding. In the early stages of nursing, babies are still getting used to being out of the womb. This is truly the most precious time, but they can be a little lazy;) So, if you have a hard time getting baby to stay latched on, just strip 'em down!
10. Remember you are amazing! Don't compare yourself to other moms. It almost comes naturally to us women to be hard on ourselves. If you start breastfeeding and it just isn't working for you, for whatever reason, you shouldn't feel like a bad mom. If you don't want to breastfeed at all, thats okay too. At the end of the day, as long as you are happy and healthy, and baby is happy and healthy, that is what is important!
What breastfeeding tips do you have?!
**********************************************************************
I hope if nothing else this helps you to consider breastfeeding if your weren't, maybe go a little longer if you are, or gave you some tips for when you have your next baby!:) Have a great Thursday!
