Foodie Pen Pal Reveal!

Hope you all had an awesome weekend! We had a busy one but it was a good one! Friday Weston played in a golf tournament with some people from work. They had a blast:) Saturday we did yard work and errands and then had some of our friends and their kids come for a cookout! We took the kids on a tractor ride and they loved it! Sunday we had to pick someone up at the airport at the last minute, so we missed church:(, but it was still a day with my family, and that I can't complain about;) I also fit in a little DIY project and I will post about it this week!

I have an awesome Guest Blogger for tomorrow! Miriam was my first Foodie Pen Pal and she is awesome! She is a great example of health and fitness and I know you will love her post!! Stay tuned until tomorrow...you will want to read her fitness tips!:)

Well, its that time again! Time for "Foodie Pen Pal" reveal!! I have so enjoyed this and if you haven't joined in, I highly recommend that you do!!

My Foodie Pen Pal for April is Kris and she is so neat! She lives in Wisconsin and has also ventured into raising chickens! It has been nice to have someone to chat with over the ups and downs of chicken raising;) She nailed my package and I cannot tell you how delicious, and how much I enjoyed these local items she sent me! I received homemade Idaho potato "tortillas" per say, a local pizza sauce to die for, fresh baked cheese (OH MY!!! YUMMY) and a sweet touch of Chocolate covered toffee bars! Thank you so much, Kris, I loved every bite:)

Have a BLESSED Monday!!!

Layfield Farm+Chickens and Ducks

Well, life here at "Layfield Farm" has been fun! We are really enjoying having the Chickens and Ducks! The boys are so fascinated by them, and it has definitely been a huge teaching opportunity in more ways than one! Not only have they seen them grow and change, but we have lost a couple which has lead to talks about Jesus, Heaven, Hell, etc. We now have 3 chicks and 2 ducks in the cage, and will be moved to the coop in another week or so! We also picked up 3 new baby chicks last weekend so they are still under the heat lamp in the "chick box!" We have 2 Light Brahmas, 1 Silver Laced Wyandotte, 1 Red Sex Link, 1 Buff Orpington, and 1 Brown Leghorn:) We also have the 2 ducks, and we shall see what they turn out to be! Below is a picture of them when we first got them:

And Now:

Here are the older 3 chicks when we first picked the up:

And Now:

Here are the 3 new babies:)

They grow so fast! i am looking forward to moving the big ones in with the ducks. We keep the ducks in the coop during the day now, and some nights as long as it stays warm enough. Unfortunately, last week my son Wyatt wanted to go "check on" the 2 chickens in the coop (our very first ones) and accidentally let them out. Our dogs got a hold of them and killed them. I was pretty upset, more because I have put so much time into them and keeping them safe- Safe from predators like snakes and small animals, and little did I know our 3 year old can open the
latches:( Again, another teaching moment, and now he understands how nature plays out and not to go check on them without Momma!!:) We are back on track and looking forward to about three more weeks and all chickens and ducks will be in the coop for good!!:)
******************************************************
On a happier note, tomorrow is the LAST day to enter your comment for a chance to win the GIVEAWAY!!!! I just received my pack of cards in the mail last week, and TRUST me, you want some of these cards for your collection!!! Winner will be announced this Thursday!!!:) Good luck!

My First Garden

As long as I can remember, my mom had a garden every year-if not two. I remember her sending me out to pick tomatoes, or cucumbers, and I remember thinking, "I hate this, and I will NEVER have a garden!" HA. It's funny how we change....
I had bought some herbs, thinking all I wanted was a small herb garden. While my mom was out to visit last week, she offered to help plant, and assured me I would want more than just a few herbs. Well, as soon as she got back home from the local seed store with everything to build a raised garden, I knew she was right! Weston built my base, and mom went to work! Man, it was so so so so nice to sit back, relax, and not have to do the work:) So, in advance, THANK YOU AGAIN, MOM!!:)

Laying the Compost, Peat Moss Mixture, and Soil

Planting is done! We had Beefsteak tomatoes, roma tomatoes,
green pepper, jalapeƱos, squash, cucumber, rosemary, basil,
cilantro, and italian parsley:)

Even the Chickens Love it;)
I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday, and I hope this encourages you to start a garden, even if its just a couple herbs:) Thanks to Mandy at Mandy's Marbles, I was encouraged to start one!

Good Friday+Activity for Kids

With it being Good Friday, I thought I would share a blog I found thru Pinterest on how to explain Easter and Jesus' story to our children....We have been following "The True Confessions of Mrs. Olson" and her awesome guide for "The 12 Days of Easter". It has the scripture for each day, explaining what Jesus was doing leading up to his crucifixion, and an activity to help your child understand:)

There is nothing more important you can do as a parent than teaching and leading your child to Jesus! When all is said and done, HE is all we need. A relationship with HIM is what saves us from Hell. Not works, who we are, etc. I hope you all have a blessed Easter. I want my boys to have fun on Easter, but most importantly, I want them to know why we really celebrate it!

This is Today's Lesson and Activity:
Day 3: Tearjerker gum … “Jesus wept.”
Read the story of Jesus healing Lazarus in John 11. Talk about how Jesus was a real person with real emotions like us. Note how he was sad, but never lost hope. He knew God was going to use Lazarus’ story for His glory. Talk about times when we feel sad, hurt, scared at times and how awesome it is to have hope like Jesus did in this situation because God is behind us and hears our prayers.

In Christ,
RL
